Barberton Area Community Ministries (BACM)
was incorporated in 1997. BACM relies on the generosity of others to
financially support it and to make food donations. Partnering
with us are individuals, civic organizations, churches and businesses. Our
mission is to assist low-income residents in the Barberton and Norton
communities with various social services. All of the services we
provide are free to our residents. Presently our services include:
· Emergency Shelter
- We provide a maximum of 1 week of shelter for temporarily homeless
individuals. Last
year we provided 306 nights of emergency shelter to 112 people. · Ohio Benefit Bank
– We assist people with an
electronic submission of applications to Ohio Job & Family
Services including: Food
stamps, Medicaid, Medicare, WIC, FAFSA, Cash Assistance, HEAP/PIPP,
Tax preparation, Senior
employment, and
others. In 2010 we assisted 258 households in obtaining these
services. · AT&T
Life Line - We assist people in obtaining local phone service at a reduced rate. BACM helped
14 households receive AT&T Life Line last year.
· Community Garden Project –
plant a plot or help with ours. Last year's garden project
helped 10 families. · The Farmer’s Market Project - $5 vouchers provided to all Food Pantry households with a total of 472 households receiving vouchers in 2010.
· Backpack
Program - 300 Students at the Barberton Head
Start School receive
food at the end of the month during the school year. · Cooking
classes - Pantry participants may attend a cooking class every other month. A sample, the recipe, and most of the ingredients are given to all who attend. During
2010, we had 8 cooking classes with a
total of 381 participants. For more information on any of these programs please contact our office at 330-745-3693.
